Social Bookmarking Generates Traffic
Social Bookmarking can be very powerful and offers many benefits to all professional internet marketers throughout their multiple social bookmarking networks. It helps you market your content and in turns it increases traffic to your website and improves your page rank.
Social bookmarking, as defined by Wikipedia, is the process used by internet users to “store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata, typically in the form of tags that collectively and/or collaboratively become a social tagging, "the process by which many users add metadata in the form of keywords to shared content".
Using social bookmarking, as part of your emarketing strategy, will enhance your visibility on Internet
The reasons are simple...
- You're not supposed to bookmark your own content!
- You're not supposed to exceed a certain number of bookmarks in your bookmarking accounts in a 24 hour period!
- A single bookmark to your content across multiple networks is not very effective any more!
- Some bookmarking networks are reporting offenders of items 1 and 2 to public services and to the search engines ... You may be facing a penalty or worse, get yourself dropped from the search engine indexes!!!
As a general rule,
A single bookmark is NOT GOOD ENOUGH! ...
... A single bookmark across 10, 20 or 30 bookmarking networks is still NO GOOD!
For social bookmarking to be effective and powerful, your content needs to be bookmarked by multiple people from around the world to bookmark. Your content need to be bookmarked many times in order to create a "social buzz". Social buzz is the phenomenon that occurs when a piece of content begins to spread virally. Do you think the search engines are paying attention to "human relevance" (aka. social buzz)?
... You bet they are!
If multiple people are bookmarking, sharing and voting for the same piece of content then this says something for the content itself. A single bookmark of a single piece of content across multiple networks (themed, tagged, optimized, etc.) is not nearly as effective as having multiple people bookmark that content. It establishes timeliness and relevance which is what the search engines crave, but you need to keep in mind that the search engines are wise and smart and if the multiple bookmarking are coming from one place ... it will mean trouble. Your content will not get the expected exposure and the benefit will be null... NOT GOOD!
The key to a successful bookmarking campaign is to have many people, friends, colleague and partners that will bookmark your site. Start thinking about building a network of people who you can work with in a group to bookmark each others’ content across 10 different bookmarking networks. The bigger the group you can build, the more social buzz you can initiate and the higher each member of the group will rank. Not to mention all the additional listings (in the search engines) your content gets from the bookmarking networks.
It is easy to rank for local and long tail search terms using this method. To compete for more competitive terms then repeat this process across 10, 20, 30 (whatever it takes) pieces of content that are all grouped under a category relating to the competitive term you’re trying to rank for.
Just pay attention to your titles, descriptions and tags to keep everything centered on the main theme you’re trying to rank for with any particular piece of content.
It can be quite hard and time consuming to build such a powerful network, especially if are quite new to the business. There are many different services out there that can help you to bookmark and syndicate your content. There is also a great new tool SYNND that can help you. Synnd is a social buzz building tool ... Light years beyond out dated social bookmarking tools and scripts.
